Shivaji Panja is a businessman from Kolkata, known to be close to Mamata Banerjee.〔 〕〔 He was arrested in February 2015〔 〕 on charges of having forged papers for taking a Rs. 18 crore loan from Industrial Finance Corporation of India. One of the companies, R P Infosystems, founded in 1998, flourished initially under the patronage of the-then Left Front government, but eventually went under.〔 Subsequently, the company secured several loans from different banks, allegedly on false papers. BK Singh, DCP Delhi, said that the companies named in the loan papers denied they had placed any orders on R P Infosystems.
